Coach Reese Snell was a longtime football and baseball coach who led programs at Franklinton, Louisiana, Mount Olive, and Hattiesburg. A native of Meridian, Reese lettered in football and basketball at Meridian High. He served two years during World War II with the 85th Infantry Division and received the Bronze Star for heroic action. After his military service, he attended Southern Miss where he played football and baseball from 1947 to 1950. He started his 15-year coaching career at Franklinton, Louisiana, as an assistant football coach in 1950. He arrived at Mount Olive in 1951 where he served as head football and baseball coach. Reese guided Mount Olive for 3 seasons compiling a record of 23 wins, 3 losses, and 3 ties. In 1960, he moved to Hattiesburg where he was Tigers head football and baseball coach until 1964. He guided the Tigers football squad to a record of 30 wins, 18 losses, and 4 ties including a 10-1 season in 1963. Coach Snell left coaching in 1965 when he worked at Hattiesburg as assistant principal from 1965 to 1975 and then as the school’s principal from 1975 until his retirement in 1986.
