Coach Raymond Dean Faulkner was a versatile coach who led the Greenville St. Joseph baseball team for over two decades. Coach Faulkner was born in Memphis, TN, and graduate of Coahoma High School in Clarksdale where he was a four-year letterman in football, an honor graduate, and a member of the school band. He was a four-year football letterman and co-captain of the Mississippi College Choctaw football team. He began his career at Humphreys County High School in Belzoni as head football coach from 1968-1972. He coached football, baseball, and golf at St. Joseph for over 20 years. His baseball teams had a record of 231-136-1 and won 16 district titles. He was named baseball Coach of the Year for 5 consecutive years from 1994-1998 and was an All-Star coach in the 1987 1A/2A/3A All-Star baseball game. Coach Faulkner was selected as a Star Teacher in 1987 & 1988 and served as athletic director for the Fighting Irish for 22 years while coaching and teaching full-time. He founded the Doug Faulkner/St. Jude’s Golf Tournament in memory of his son Doug who was a patient at St. Jude’s for 7 years.
