Famed longtime state championship basketball coach and athletic director at Ingomar, Coach Norris Ashley is a native of Pontotoc who was an outstanding basketball and baseball player at Ingomar and Delta State. Coach Ashley began his 38-year coaching career at Coahoma County where he was head coach for basketball and baseball from 1969 to 1971. He arrived at Ingomar in 1972 where he has established a championship program that has endured for nearly four decades. He led the Ingomar Falcons boys & girls hoops teams to 1,549 wins and only 799 losses out of 2,303 games coaches. Norris has coached Ingomar to 4 boys basketball state championships (1978, 1979, 1999, 2003) and 4 girls hoops state titles (1972, 1991, 1992, 1994). Coach Ashley guided his 1978 boys team to the Grand Slam championship of all classifications. He coached his Falcon baseball teams to 354 wins and 169 losses out of 523 games. He was named the 1970 Delta Valley Conference Coach of the Year, MAC Coach of the Year in 1978 and 1979 and selected as Girls Hoops Coach of the Year by the MS Sportswriters in 1994. He was chosen as Boys Coach of the Year in 2002 by the National Federation of State HS Coaches and was picked as the 1993-94 Girls Coach of the Year and the 2001-02 Boys Coach of the Year by the NE MS Daily Journal. He coached the North All-Star girls in the 1972 Mississippi High School All-Star Basketball game. Coach Ashley was selected as a Star Teacher in 1981.
