Coach “Red” Bullock was a professional baseball player who was a coach, principal, and superintendent with Moss Point schools. Born in Biloxi, Coach Bullock played baseball at Millsaps College and signed to pitch for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1936. He made his major league debut on May 19, 1936, and appeared in 12 games, pitched 16 2/3 innings and compiled a record of 0-2 for his only season in the majors. He made one more attempt with the Portsmouth Cubs of the Class B Piedmont League in the 1937 season. After appearing in three games in the minors and going 1-1 while throwing 16 innings, he called it a career and entered coaching on the Coast. He had a distinguished 40-year coaching career which ended in 1977 with his retirement as school superintendent. Coach Bullock passed away on June 27, 1988, in Pascagoula at the age of 76.
