Coach James “Jim” Drewery became the winningest football coach in the history of Mississippi high school football. He was born in Kossuth and was a multi-sport athlete at Kossuth High. He had a fifty-year coaching career at Kossuth, Tishomingo, and Booneville. He led Booneville to three state championships. His first stint at Booneville was from 1965-77 with two stops at Kossuth. He retired briefly in 1986 and returned to Tishomingo in 1989. He then returned to Booneville in 1990. Coach Drewery received the American Football Coaches Association Power of Influence Award in 2009. The fieldhouse at Booneville High and the street adjoining the school are both named in his honor. He became the all-time winningest coach in Mississippi high school history when Booneville defeated Tchula Marshall 59-6 on Friday, November 6, 2009, with a record of 344-156-5 passing Joe Bradshaw of Noxubee County, North Panola, and Strider Academy.
