Coach Jack Mason Carlisle was a distinguished championship coach who led Murrah High and Jackson Prep to State titles in football and track. Coach Carlisle was born in Amory and attended Amory High from 1945-47. He completed his college career at East Mississippi Junior College from 1947-49 and at Mississippi State in 1952. Jack began his four-decade coaching career at Ethel High in 1952. He coached football and track at Lula-Rich from 1954-56, Nettleton High from 1956-59, and Collierville, TN, High from 1959-61 (1960 Shelby County Champions) until he arrived at Murrah in 1961. Coach Carlisle developed a powerhouse football and track program for the Mustangs from 1961 to 1971. He guided the Mustangs to 8 City of Jackson titles, the 1961 North Big Eight crown, the 1970 Central Big Eight title, and the 1965 overall Big Eight State Championship. He led the Murrah track squad to 8 City of Jackson championships, 6 Big Eight titles, and 7 state track championships. Jack served as Athletic Director and head football and track coach at Jackson Prep from 1971 to 1975. He guided the Patriots football team to AAA state championships in 1971, 1972, and 1974. He coached Prep to state track titles in 1971 & 1972. He was head Junior varsity football coach and head track coach at Ole Miss from 1975-1977. He served as head football coach at East Tennessee State University from 1978 to 1982. He returned to Mississippi as head football coach at Madison-Ridgeland Academy from 1983 to 1994. He led MRA to the 1985 South AAA title and the 1992 AAA State Championship. Jack worked as an assistant at St. Joseph’s High in 1994, as athletic director at University Christian from 1995-96, as assistant at Jackson Prep in 1997, as an assistant at East Mississippi CC in 1998, as an assistant at Simpson Academy in 1999, and as an assistant at Millsaps College from 2000-2003. He was ten-time Coach of the Year in football and track from numerous media sources. He was inducted into the Collierville, TN, High Hall of Fame in 1975, the Jackson Prep Hall of Fame in 1996, the East Mississippi CC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003, and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
