Legendary championship boys' basketball coach at Broad Street and Coahoma County High, Peterson hails from Sunflower County and graduated from Ruleville Central High, Coahoma Junior College and Mississippi Valley State. During his 41-year coaching career, he guided Broad Street to the 1989 Class 2A state crown and Coahoma County to back-to-back Class 2A State Championships in 2005 and 2006. He has been honored on 11 occasions as Coach of the Year, and his teams had an overall record of 934-395.
