Coach Hubert Tucker is a superb championship football coach that led gridiron programs at Fielding Wright High in Rolling Fork, Taylorsville High, Alcorn Central High, Baldwyn High, Corinth High, and Northeast Community College. Coach Tucker hails from Laurel and is a graduate of Heidelberg High, Delta State—where he lettered two years in baseball, and Ole Miss. He started his 29-year career in 1966 as an assistant football coach at Fielding Wright in Rolling Fork before working in the same position for a year at Taylorsville. He earned his first head football coaching job at Alcorn Central at Glen where he coached two seasons before arriving at Baldwyn. Coach Tucker would spend 15 years at Baldwyn as head football coach and athletic director leading the football teams to great success. His Baldwyn squads claimed 5 district titles, two North state crowns, and appearances in the Corinth Crossroads Bowl, the Oxford, Civitan Bowl, and the Ackerman Red Hills Bowl. In addition to his wins on the football field, he paced the basketball team to a conference championship and the baseball squads to 4 sub district titles, 1 district championship, and 1 South State title. In 1988, he went to Corinth where he served 2 seasons as head football coach and then arrived at Booneville as head football coach at Northeast Mississippi Community College. Hubert’s high school teams compiled an overall record of 151 wins, 103 losses, and 4 ties out of 258 games he coached for a 58% winning percentage. Coach Tucker was a two-time coach of the year as selected by the Tippamingo and Tombigbee Conferences. He was a four-time district coach of the year and named a Star Teacher in 1982. Hubert was an assistant coach in the 1984 Bernard Blackwell All-Star Football Classic and served as head coach in the same contest in 1985. He was an assistant coach in the 1987 Mississippi/Alabama All-Star football classic. Coach Tucker was the longtime director of parks and summer baseball at Baldwyn from 1973 to 1984. He served the MAC in numerous capacities including a term as President in 1981 to 1982, a member of the Board of Directors, and a member of the MAC Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Coach Tucker served 8 years on the legislative council of the MHSAA.
