Coach Geary Jackson is an outstanding championship basketball and track coach who led programs at Waynesboro Central, Wayne County, Meridian, and Wayne Academy. Geary is a native of Waynesboro and a graduate of Waynesboro Central and Southern Miss. He began his 35-year coaching career in 1973 at his alma mater at Waynesboro Central. After serving one season as an assistant, he took over the basketball program for the next 15 years until 1989. Geary paced the Waynesboro Central hoops squad to 6 district titles, 4 South State crowns, and 2 state championships in 1981 and 1983. Coach Jackson guided the boys and girls track programs and led the boys squad to 11 district championships, 7 conference titles, and the 1983 South State title. His girls squads captured 6 district championships and 4 conference titles. He worked for 2 seasons as head basketball and track coach at Wayne County High from 1989 to 1991 where he coached the boys' track team to 2 conference championships while his girls' team claimed 1 district title. After coaching at Meridian High for 8 years, he left the coaching ranks for one season and then returned to Wayne County in 2000 where he led the hoops and track teams for 7 seasons gaining another 3 district titles in basketball. He coached at Wayne Academy from 2010 to 2012 picking up another district title and a South State crown in basketball and a district championship in boys' track. Overall, his boys' basketball teams won 10 district crowns, 5 South State titles, and 2 state championships while rolling up a mark of 679 wins and 247 losses out of 926 games coached. His boys track teams won 12 district titles, 9 conference championships, and 1 South State crown. Geary's girls track teams earned a total of 7 district titles and 4 conference championships. Coach Jackson served as a coach in the 1983 Mississippi High School All-Star basketball game, and is a three-time Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Classic basketball coach in 1993, 2002, and 2003. Geary served on the MAC Board of Directors for 15 years and was vice president in 1998 and MAC President in 1999.
