He led Hickory High basketball teams to 1951 girls state title and 1953 boys state championship. He guided Philadelphia boys team to 1958 state title and 1959 A-AA crown. His teams appeared in the state tournament 17 out of his 18 years in coaching and won the Choctaw Conference 16 out his 18 year MS career. He guided the high school careers of 21 All-Star players and served as All-Star coach in 1955, 1956, and 1965.
