Coach Charlie Floyd was a championship track & field coach at Gloster and Amite County High. Coach Floyd hails from Centreville where he was an All- Conference football player and All State track star for Wilkinson County High in Woodville. He was an NAIA All-America track performer at Alcorn State. Charlie began his 30-year coaching career at Gloster High in 1970. He led Gloster High track teams to an incredible 16 state championships with 8 boys titles, 5 girls crowns, and one girls cross country state title. He coached 11 years at Amite County High where his track squads captured 5 state championships (4 boys, 1 girls). Overall, his track teams won 21 state championships from 1973 to 2000 with 15 runner-up finishes for the boys and 10 runner-up finishes for his girls squads. His track teams participated in 550 meets over the years. Coach Floyd was named MAC Track Coach of the Year on 5 occasions (1976, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1994). He was Four-time Region 5 NHSACA Coach of the Year. Charlie was a MAC member from 1972-2000 and served MHSAA Track Affairs Committee from 1976-2000. He served as Vice President of NHSAA for girls track from 1982-90 and served as Vice President of the Southern Association branch of the US Association of Track & Field from 1997-2000. He also served as athletic director at Amite County High from 1994-2000 until he was named principal of the school in January, 2000. Charlie served for 25 years on the Wilkinson County School Board. He is a former member of the Centreville Art Council and Chamber of Commerce and organized USATF Track Club for underprivileged youth. He coached 3 Gold Medal track winners as member of Junior Pan American coaching staff in 1997 at Havana, Cuba.
