Nationally recognized girls basketball coach who has led the Murrah Lady Mustangs to a record 9 Class 5A state championships. Coach Jackson is a native of Kosciusko who graduated from Attala County Training School and earned college degrees at Jackson State. She served as an assistant coach at Lanier and spent two years at Callaway, where she coached the volleyball squad, before arriving at Murrah High in 1983 as head girls basketball coach. Anna developed the Murrah Lady Mustangs girls hoops program into one of the best in the nation. She guided the Lady Mustangs to 1 Big Eight Title, 8 Division crowns, 3 South State titles, 3 North State crowns, 1 Grand Slam title, and an amazing 9 Class 5A state championships including 3 consecutive titles from 1997-1999 and 2006-2009…..Her 9 state championships (1991, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008, & 2009) are more than any other basketball coach (boys or girls) in state history. Out of 859 games played through 2009, her Lady Mustangs had a record of 692-167 for an 80% winning mark. Her 692nd career win was for her first Grand Slam title with the Lady Mustangs. Coach Jackson has developed numerous players who have received college scholarships. She was named Coach of the Year for girls basketball on numerous occasions by the MAC (2001-02) and the Jackson Clarion Ledger (1991, 1998, 2009). She is the first coach in Mississippi to be named Clarion Ledger All State Coach of the Year three times. Anna served as South Coach in the Mississippi High School All-Star game in 1987 and as Mississippi squad coach in the MS/AL All-Star game in 1998-99. She was selected as WBCA All America Coach in 1999-2000 and McDonald’s All America Coach in 2004-05. Coach Jackson was chosen as the Most Caring Coach in America by the USA Today in 1998. She is a life member of the MAE/NEA and longtime member of the MAC and the Women’s Basketball Coaches of America. Anna has been a frequent MAC clinic speaker.
